Developing Chinese (3rd Edition) adopts
a second language teaching and textbook compilation model that combines
specialized language skill training with comprehensive language ability
development. The complete set is structured into three levels (Elementary, Intermediate
and Advanced) and six series (Comprehensive, Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing
and Elementary Reading and Writing). Among them, the Comprehensive Series
serves as the core textbook, while the Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing,
and Elementary Reading & Writing Series are supporting textbooks.
Developing Chinese: Advanced Speaking
Course (II) aims to train and improve learners’ advanced comprehensive oral
expression skills and communicative competence in social life. This textbook
consists of 13 lessons and 1 thematic activity. The texts are closely related
to real life, covering topics such as procrastination, first impressions,
family education, views on marriage, animal protection, life in big cities and
so on, so as to expose learners to a wide variety of authentic language
materials as much as possible. Each lesson includes sections such as “Expressing
Opinions”, “Learning to Express”, “Text”, “Classroom Activities and Tasks”, “Text
Link” and “What I Have Learned”. The “Thematic Activity” section provides
suggested tasks, which can be regarded as a complete process from information
searching, idea organizing, and language planning to oral presentation, namely
a comprehensive test of learners’ overall oral performance.

similar topics, enabling creative expression through drawing inferences from
one instance.

Progressive Improvement
